Blackened Horde: How did the band get started?

Xyklen: It was back in 2012 when I was really interested in Black Metal and wanted to make a band. So I began my search to find other members, but I was met with many problems, either the musicians I met didn’t have the same mentality as me, or they didn’t play Black Metal at all. So I quit my search for some time and then in 2013 I decided that I had to do everything myself. I had to create my own logo, write my own music and lyrics because, I had to start somewhere in music, and thus Xarkrinur was born.

Blackened Horde: What kind of music do you play?
Xyklen: I play black metal with depressive and raw influences to be honest.

Blackened Horde: How has the fan response been?
Xyklen: I was surprised actually, even though no label accepted me at that time. I really liked how many labels acclaimed the demo album, and advised me, and some fans are really liking the shit. And a few I know in my own country.

Blackened Horde: Where did the band name come from?
Xyklen: I wanted something to be dark, so I chose the name “Dark” and thought what I could do with it. Then I thought about changing alphabets, so I changed the ‘D’ with an ‘X’ and it was “Xark” and first I thought it was lame, and I kept saying that word and it automatically got rhythmic as “Xarkrinur” that’s how it came. And since it was a newly invented word, I chose it’s meaning as “The World of Darkness”.

Blackened Horde: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.
Xyklen: Well, I (Xyklen) do everything in the band, from making the logo, to writing lyrics and even some artwork designs. I started XR when I was 13, and now I’m 15, I was 14 when the demo got released via Depressive Illusions Records.

Blackened Horde: Who writes the music? Lyrics?
Xyklen: Of course, I write everything.

Blackened Horde: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
Xyklen: Mainly from certain events and experiences from my life, it’s like I undergo a horrifying event and it takes me some time to sway away from it. But when doing that, I think about the main lesson and experienced I learned from the event and write about it.

Blackened Horde: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?
Xyklen: Well, I honestly don’t have any offends to it, and I think both of them are cool.

Blackened Horde: How many albums/CD’s have you released?
Xyklen: Currently the demo was released via Depressive Illusions Records, but pretty soon Mortuary Productions will release a split album between Xarkrinur and Krayl (from India) named Lucifuge Rofocale, and another split album of mine will be released in the winter period by Acephale Winter, that split’s name is Cold Forest, and it’s between Xarkrinur and Happiness Through Suicide.

Blackened Horde: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?
Xyklen: Demo”14 talks about rage to be precise, Cold Forest talks about both depression and rage with a bit of twist of self harm. Lucifuge Rofocale talks about betrayals from your lord, and suddenly realizing truths.

Blackened Horde: Do you have any side projects?
Xyklen: No I don’t have any side projects.

Blackened Horde: Who are some of your musical influences?
Xyklen: Gorgoroth, Xasthur, Satyricon, Judas Iscariot, Nargaroth, Immortal, Behemoth, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Bathory, Sargeist and 1349.

Blackened Horde: Which current bands?
Xyklen: Gorgoroth, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Sargeist and Behemoth.

Blackened Horde: What is the band like when you play live?
Xyklen: Sorry but I haven’t played live with Xarkrinur, and will not ever.

Blackened Horde: Have you guys ever played in another country?
Xyklen: Nope, never had.

Blackened Horde: How big of crowd shows up at shows usually?
Xyklen: There wasn’t ever a show.

Blackened Horde: How is the crowd response when you play?
Xyklen: Don’t know.

Blackened Horde: What do you think of the US Black Metal/Death Metal scene?
Xyklen: I listen to Black Metal more, and when it comes to the US scene, I only think of Xasthur and Leviathan, I mean both of them are absolutely killer.

Blackened Horde: What do you think of the Overseas scenes?
Xyklen: When it comes to Overseas, I think of the Norwegian Black Metal scene of the 90s, the golden time for Black Metal and its popularity. And without that time, without the Norwegians, Black Metal might have not reached it here.

Blackened Horde: What are some of new favorite black metal/death metal bands?
Xyklen: Some of my all time favorite Black Metal/Death Metal bands would be Gorgoroth, Eternal Tears of Sorrow and Xasthur.

Blackened Horde: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?
Xyklen: Well, Cold Forest’s music and lyrics writing, along with the vocals has been done and now it’s waiting for release. Currently I’m doing the vocals for Lucifuge Rofocale split, I’ve done writing the music and the lyrics, and without these two, I’m making another demo and EP.

Blackened Horde: What does the future hold for the band??
Xyklen: I shall forever remain the sole member of Xarkrinur, and proudly release under that moniker, and in the future, more releases will come.
