Blackened Horde: How did the band get started? How long you been together?

Lord Necron: Blackthorn our drummer and Sowrnghoul, the other guitarist started Thornspawn in 1993 on and off. I asked them around 1995 if they wanted another guitarist, and they let me tryout. I got the job. So we officially started as 3 piece in 1995.

Blackened Horde: Where did the name Thornspawn come from?

Lord Necron: From the Isengard song “Thornspawn Chalice”. We always liked Isengard so we thought it worked perfect for us.

Blackened Horde: Describe your music…

Lord Necron: “Unholy Black War Metal”. Comparable to the gates of hell being opened.

Blackened Horde: What is the band all about? And why did you guys form the band?

Lord Necron: We are a very straight forward black metal. We do not relay on gimmicks or anything like that. We perform true black metal. We are from San Antonio, TX.

Blackened Horde: How many demos have you guys put out?

Lord Necron: Two, “The Dacian Empire”, which is long gone so do not bother asking for it, and “The Consecration of Evil Flesh”, which will not be available much longer.

Blackened Horde: Do you plan on recording again soon?

Lord Necron: Yes, we are recording our 1st CD in September “Blood of the Holy taints thy steel”. It will be released on Baphomet Records.

Blackened Horde: Tell me about some of the song on the CD…

Lord Necron: “Blood of the Holy Taints Thy Steel” is about a Christian Slaughtered by Pagans. “Master of the Blood Fury” is about a medieval lord who would go bezerk basically killing everyone in sight. “Man, thy name is Satan” is when Satan gave man the concept of knowledge and all its by products. Blackthorn writes all the lyrics so he would be able to go into greater detail into this than I can.

Blackened Horde: Who writes the music to the songs?

Lord Necron: Me and Swornghoul handle all the music.

Blackened Horde: Do you guys have any musical influences?

Lord Necron: Yes, of course. Old Slayer, Marduk, Possessed, Necrovore, Bathory, Mayhem, Dark Throne, Mercyful Fate, Immolation, Incantation, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Bestial Warlust, Death, Slaughter Lord, are some of my personal influences.

Blackened Horde: What is the band like live?

Lord Necron: Fast and Loud. Pure neck breaking metal unleashed. Spikes, Leather and corpse paint of course. We been playing live since 1996, so we have been perfecting our live since then.

Blackened Horde: Do you guys wear any special clothing on stage?

Lord Necron: Leather and spikes. Like any real black metal band should

Blackened Horde: Have you guys ever played out of state?

Lord Necron: Not yet. We plan on it this year though. Luckily, Texas is huge so we always can hit a different city every once in awhile. I want to play in Florida and California next.

Blackened Horde: How big of a crowd do you guys usually get?

Lord Necron: Depends, we usually get about 70-100. Houston though sucks bad. We got like 20 the last time we played there. But we always play every show with the same amount of intenseness. Small crowd is no reason to suck.

Blackened Horde: So then you would play with any band even if they sucked?

Lord Necron: Hell no! We have our dignity. We are very selective with who we play with.

Blackened Horde: What does the future hold for the band?

Lord Necron: We have our 7″ “Infernal Legions” coming out on September 15 on Profanation Records. Next will be the CD out on Baphomet Records. We hope to have that out in November, if not by early next year. We promise to keep our black metal true to the original form of black metal.

Blackened Horde: I wish you luck… and thank you for the interview.
