Blackened Horde: How did THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP get started?
Pete: The idea to it was laid during my last years in MAZE OF TORMENT. I would say that I got more serious about it in 2001. I released 3 albums, “Dödsångest”, “Temple of Whores”, “Worship the Soul of Disgust”, but under the moniker FLESH. When I decided to only do music for this solo project I also wanted a more “personal” name as the music would get an vider spectrum. But in general so is FLESH and THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP the same thing.
Blackened Horde: What kind of music do you play?
Pete: Music for people that dwells in mental dungeons full of filth.
Blackened Horde: How has the fan response been?
Pete: In an overall view it has been good, more and more seem to understand the general idea of different contrasts and atmospheres through the album. I get more than grateful when I notice that people actually are listen to the album and not just play 5 seconds of every song and then writes an opinion. Of course I understand that not everyone will like it, but you get my point.
Blackened Horde: Where did the band name come from?
Pete: A jigsaw of my name, DEATH and a fascination of the dead.
Blackened Horde: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.
Pete: I´m the only member. But on this album I use Andreas Jonsson (VINTERLAND, TYRANT, THE BLACK) and session drummer and Micke Broberg (UNANIMATED, 13TH PASSANGER) on guest vocals on half of the album. The producer Peter Bjärgö (CRYPT OF KERBEROS, TYRANT, ARCANA) help me with samples, piano etc. and his wife Ia (ARCANA) guest sings on the track “Bleed”.
Blackened Horde: Who writes the music? Lyrics?
Pete: I do all the music, and until this album, all the lyrics. Micke contributed with 3 lyrics.
Blackened Horde: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
Pete: When it comes to the lyrics, mostly stuff that relates to the dead and death in general. We all can relate to it and have different experiences from it, I try to make it from my experiences, reflections and journeys to find different views on it. It has attracts me since I was a kid, it comes natural for me. There are tons of topics that you can relate to this factor and write about. Of course, sometimes there are lyrics written that has nothing to do with it, but not often. I at least must find it interesting.
Blackened Horde: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?
Pete: Development, no fashion.
Blackened Horde: How many albums/CD’s have you released?
Pete: With MAZE OF TORMENT 5 albums, DECEIVER 4 albums, THROWN 1 album and with this solo project 4 albums. But like I said, the 3 first are released under the moniker FLESH.
Blackened Horde: Tell me about some of the songs on the latest CD?
Pete: Fast, slow, different atmospheres, vibes of different influences from different genres….it all runs through all songs.
Blackened Horde: Do you have any side projects?
Pete: No. THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP is my prior now and the only thing I will create music and lyrics for. There is no point for me anymore to have anything else, everything I do sounds like me anyway. I gather all influences and expressions into one thing, it gets more interesting for me that way.
Blackened Horde: Who are some of your musical influences?
Pete: I could mention hundred of bands here that I have grown up with and in some forms have shaped my way of doing music. It´s everything from POSSESSED to PINK FLOYD, JUDAS PRIEST to BATHORY.
Blackened Horde: Which current bands?
Pete: I listen to newer bands, but can´t say that they influence me when it comes to song writing.
Blackened Horde: What is the band like when you play live?
Pete: Have not played live yet with THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP, but plans are in progress.
Blackened Horde: Have you guys ever played in another country?
Pete: We all have, but in different bands.
Blackened Horde: How big of crowd shows up at shows usually?
Pete: More than 2 goats I hope for.
Blackened Horde: How is the crowd response when you play?
Pete: When I finally do I will do my best to give em a good show.
Blackened Horde: What do you think of the US Black Metal/Death Metal scene?
Pete: Well, lots of fave bands from the US. POSSESSED, SADUS, MORBID ANGEL, EXMORTIS, ATHEIST, NUNSLAUGHTER, DEATH….this name dropping almost get silly….I could go on and on.
Blackened Horde: What do you think of the Overseas scenes?
Pete: To be honest, I have not reflected on that. With this internet thing most countries seems to have the same…ground.
Blackened Horde: What are some of new favorite black metal/death metal bands?
Pete: I like IN SOLITUDE and they play something different, so I guess I don´t have one. You should send me some links.
Blackened Horde: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?
Pete: I have started to write on some new material, it will get interesting. Will maybe include some tracks from my old bands as well, but done in the T.P.F.D.T way.
Blackened Horde: What does the future hold for THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP?
Pete: Keep doing promotion for the new album. Start to look into possible live situations. Keep writing new material. Thanx for the interview and space.
