Blackened Horde: How did the band get started? How did you meet and how long have you been together?
Ben: Me (Guitar) and Tony Lipton (Guitar) started the band in October 1994. We knew each other from high school and we also knew drummer Travis Huffman and our bass player Tommy Chaffin from school. We’d also jammed with them in other bands and hung around with them for while. We got Travis in the band in November 1995. And I got Tommy in the band in February of 1996. Rob Gaines joined the band in September 1996 as our full time vocalist. He use to be in the band Doom Foundation so we knew him from show and mail. We’ve been together as a “working: band for about a year and half now.
Blackened Horde: How would you describe your music?
Ben: When we write a song, we try to make it as brutal as possible with the best possible musicianship. So I would describe our music as severely brutal, without sacrificing musicianship.
Blackened Horde: What are your biggest musical influences?
Ben: We’re influenced by anything that’s brutal and played well. I’d say our biggest influences are Deicide, Suffocation, (Early) Death, Dying Fetus, Incantation, Sinister and Broken Hope and a lot of others.
Blackened Horde: Who if, if any do you consider the bands idols?
Ben: We don’t really have any idols but we have a lot of favorite bands like Disgorge, Immortal Suffering, Lividity, Embalmer, Fleshgrind, Dehumanized, Shredded, Corpse, Deaden and Internal Bleeding.
Blackened Horde: What made you want to be in the band? And if you weren’t in the band what would you want to be doing now?
Ben: Probably because of how well I like death metal and because I felt we could give the death metal scene a good product. If I wasn’t in a band I’d probably have a record label so I could help a lot of bands I feel deserve it.
Blackened Horde: What are some of your favorite bands that are really popular today?
Ben: Well I don’t really have any favorite bands that are really popular. I guess my favorite “popular” bands would be Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Broken Hope and Suffocation.
Blackened Horde: How many demos/albums do you have? Tell me about them.
Ben: We only have one demo available right now called “Conceived Through Vomit”. It contains five songs of pure musical destruction and savagery!! Some songs are “Gruesome Hallucinations:, “Vomited Birth” and “Sandpaper Abrasions”, as well as a couple others. It’s available for five dollars in the US and six everywhere else from US. You can also get it from distributors such as Wild Rags, Bloodclot, Visceral Productions, Grave Productions, Millennium Distribution, Anticraps Distribution and Ablated Records. We should have a new release out by summer 1997 so look out for that. The new material is a lot more brutal!
Blackened Horde: If you could play with any band who would it be and why?
Ben: I’m not sure. There’s a lot of bands I’d play with like Deicide, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Internal Bleeding, Incantation, Broken Hope or Slayer. I’d like to play with any of those bands because they’re all killer and I’ve never had the opportunity to play with them.
Blackened Horde: Who writes the majority of the music?
Ben: Me and Tony divide it up pretty much half and half. Although he’s written most of the new material.
Blackened Horde: Who has been the favorite band you’ve played with? Why?
Ben: Cannibal Corpse because we’ve liked their music for a long time and they’re real cool guys.
Blackened Horde: Where did you get the band name from?
Ben: I thought of it and it sounded cool to us, so we kept it. We had thought of a lot of names that were already taken.
Blackened Horde: Describe what the band is like live?
Ben: Very brutal and tight! We always manage to get violent pit started!!
Blackened Horde: If you are gonna do any kind of video what would be in it?
Ben: Oh man! There’s so much stuff I could come up with for a video! It would be the sickest thing ever seen! I would have the most sickening gore and the most extreme pornography in it! It would contain scenes of cannibalism, mutilation, necrophilia, rituals, amputation and a lot more gruesome episodes!!
Blackened Horde: Are there any tour plans made, if so tell me about them?
Ben: No. No touring plans yet! We basically play everywhere we can whenever we can. Whenever we can spread the sickness!
Blackened Horde: Where do you think the band will be in 20 years from now?
Ben: Hopefully still creating the most brutal music possible! If we’re not signed or touring or anything like that, we’ll definitely at least still playing our instruments. Who knows? We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds!
