Summon: How did the band get started?

El DucaConte: Well when they have started i wasn’t even a drummer so I think that it was like during the 1st world war with the first real explosions and first death metal’s demo. SteF (guitar) and Marcello (basso/voice) started all 13 years ago under a different name and then they’ve changed into Psychofagist 11 years ago. But there’s nothing interesting about the beginning of Psychofagist… School friends/metal legacy/patches on the jackets/etc etc… Like all the old school metal bands ahah!

Summon: What kind of music do you play?

El DucaConte: For 90% of the world it isn’t music but only noise or what so ever. We do play loads of different styles, is like going in a red light district and have all sort of choice… We want all from the blonde nice girl to the old fat filthy skunky bitch. You can find many styles in what we play and we are NOT a jazz core band as everyone will say or a death metal band… We like to play all fast and louder than Kerry King’s amps.

Summon: How has the fan response been?

El DucaConte: They love us… We don’t have someone in between. You love or hate us… Normally everyone hates us!

Summon: Where did the band name come from?

El DucaConte: Actually… I have no idea ahahahahhahahaha! But it came BEFORE fucking Necrophagist… So fuck everyone that says that we’ve been inspired by that band!

Summon: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.

SteF – guitar / 2nd voice / sometimes saxophone with us

Marcello – bass / voice

ducaConte – drums / sampler

Summon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?

El DucaConte: Everyone in the band. We meet in the rehearsal room, we play, we sweat, we hate eachother and then we get to a new song after 1 week or 3 months. We never come with something already written at home…maybe an idea but nothing certain. Marcello writes the lyrics only when he is in the studio. We never know what is going on with those during the creation of a music piece…like a secret agent man.

Summon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?

El DucaConte: You should ask him…I don’t (also steF) have a clue on where he gets ispiration.

Summon: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?

El DucaConte: Satanism and occultism in 2013?!?! Please… Not everyone in metal is into that pretending to raise Satan thanks to their Peavey 5150 head and MetalZone Boss guitar pedal, or with a new t-shirt design. It has become a joke and has lost all of his credibility.

Summon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?

El DucaConte: This latest album is our 9th release and 3rd full length.

Summon: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?

El DucaConte: For the first time in our story we decided to fix some dates for the studio/release and so on. We had to stay strict to a time schedule and this helped a lot also because we’ve been keen on playing a lot during the week and get mad with each other. Putting also NAPALMED’s noises into our songs made us move to another step further on our compositions. We’ve been inspired a lot by Gorguts’ album Obscura and to Steve Hurdles (R.I.P.) guitar style. This is not a METAL album… Bury in mind this. You will find some real heavy riffs as some improvvisation and also some drone parts or long “progressive” songs.

Summon: Do you have any side projects?

El DucaConte: I do play in a rockabilly band ( I.E. Stray Cats), in a 70’s punk style band and many others. SteF plays guitar only with us and he plays saxophone with many projects ’round europe Marcello plays only with us and also in the 70’s punk band.

Summon: Who are some of your musical influences?

El DucaConte: Everything… Death metal/pop music/jazz/classical music/funk/brutal death metal/etc etc. If it’s well played and it sounds good to i’ll BUY the record and listen to it tons of times. Same for the other two guys, obviously with diffent tastes but we really listen to all sorts of music.

Summon: Which current bands?

El DucaConte: Well I’ve listened to latest Drugs of Faith/Wormed/Pyrrhon and I really love those records. Also Backseat Boogies/Hormonauts/Rock’n’roll kamikazes (these are all rockabilly Italian bands).

Summon: What is the band like when you play live?

El DucaConte: Intense/Heavy/Psych /Stupid.

Summon: Have you guys ever played in another country?

El DucaConte: Yeah. We did different tours and festivals around all Europe.

Summon: How big of crowd shows up at shows usually?

El DucaConte: We get from 15 to 100, so all sort of audience.

Summon: How is the crowd response when you play?

El DucaConte: They do enjoy (how?!?! eheh) our show and go deep into what we play. When I play I can spot the reactions and I feed on them to get more inspired during the concert.

Summon: What do you think of the US Black Metal/Death Metal scene?

El DucaConte: It was awesome in the 90’s… Now ?! I spot sometimes a couple of bands per year but for the rest is all about the trends…

Summon: What do you think of the Overseas scenes?

El DucaConte: I still think that the word “scene” has expired… There are NO scenes, only bands.

Summon: What are some of new favorite black metal/death metal bands?

El DucaConte: Drugs of Faith/Wormed/Pyrrhon.

Summon: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?

El DucaConte: Not now… Maybe after our next tours. Now we have to rehearse other songs from our latest release and we are full so being short on time doesn’t make it easy.

Summon: What does the future hold for the band??

El DucaConte: We’ll be in Israel for a 4 days tour and we are working on longer european tour. We’ll see….
