Prayer Of The Dying Review

Prayer Of The Dying

Banished from Death”

Prayer of the Dying

2017

Hailing from Malta is one man outfit, Prayer Of The Dying.  What you get here is a mix of black, death and doom metal with some raspy black metal vocals and the odd clean vocal part which definitely adds to proceedings.  Opening track starts with an acoustic passage before ” blessed with death ” kicks in with an almost atmospheric metal riff, which i totally approve of.  Through out the album there are moments of genius with some very melodic passages all sitting perfectly in the mix.

I seemed to prefer the later part of the album overall, songs like ” No Gods No Wars ” and ” Outlanders ” and  ” Death over Life “. If these tracks had started the album I think it would have worked better, but that is neither here nor there.  Now the only issue I have with this recording is the guitars, it sounds like he is using a cheap Zoom multi effects pedal to achieve whatever he is going for.

Again only spots do the guitars sound decent, but the acoustic guitars sound pretty awesome and the work done on those is impressive to say the least.  I’m not huge on one man bands because its very hit or miss for the quality you are going to get, especially in the Goregrind territory.

This is polished and well played, but if you are expecting the speed of light blast beats then you are going to be bitterly disappointed to say the least, not that the album needs them, but some would have been nice.  All round good effort and worth checking out.
