Summon: How did the band get started?

Haborym Mastama: Disenfranchised with metal music in general, a hatred for the scene.  I had been playing in a couple metal bands, and realized that in order to actually be a band you needed to make concessions with bands and people that I not only disliked but think are a rotting disease in metal music.  So I bought equipment to record at my home, recorded a couple demos with a singer and called the band “Finger of Scorn”.  Soon after which I quit all my other bands and did everything, including vocals, myself under the name of “Hohl”.

Summon: What kind of music do you play?

Haborym Mastama: For classification reasons it is Black Metal.  But, Black Metal is no longer Black Metal for the most part.  What Black Metal is today is people playing dress up and playing misshapen death metal songs.  I don’t know for sure if ‘Hohl’ is a Black Meal band, but I do know it is more “Black” thank the majority of the shit I hear today.

Summon: How has the fan response been?

Haborym Mastama: I don’t really pay attention, and I don’t really care.  What the fuck is a “fan” anyway?

Summon: Where did the band name come from?

Haborym Mastama: The name ‘Hohl’ is German for ‘Hollow’ or ‘Numb’.  It is ambiguous for a reason.

Summon: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.

Haborym Mastama: The only Member is I, Haborym Mastama.  I write, perform and record all of the music myself.

Summon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?

Haborym Mastama: See above

Summon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?

Haborym Mastama: The lyrics are my own philosophy and expression.  They are told through parables, as our ancestors would tell fairy tales.

Summon: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?

Haborym Mastama: Theistic Satanism and Occultism are good things, if their purpose is to procreate evil and darkness.  That bad thing is these ideas seem to attract people who are not serious or just ill.  But the good part is these people typically do not stay and they either succumb to death either through drug use or suicide, so it does have it’s “ups”, so to speak with that.  The grand hope is for the people to stop so much as just singing about Satan, but actually start doing his work.

Summon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?

Haborym Mastama: Official releases, ‘Hohl’ only has one, released on cassette by A Terre Records in Minnesota, USA, and limited to 40 copies.  All my music is released on cassette, to ensure that it isn’t just purchased by someone who has decided they are going to “give black metal a try”.

Summon: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?

Haborym Mastama: There are four tracks on the cassette, totaling 33 minutes.  The songs follow a path of three characters who realize the actual power within themselves and use that power to procreate evil and destruction.  Fantasy tales used to preach the philosophy of true devastation and Darkness.

Summon: Do you have any side projects?

Haborym Mastama: “Finger of Scorn” is the only other project.  But that only happens when I feel like it.

Summon: Who are some of your musical influences?

Haborym Mastama: I listen to many forms of music, and do not take influence from any one kind.

Summon: Which current bands?

Haborym Mastama: I don’t really listen to “current” music, I don’t care to go out and find new music.  The only “new” Black Metal band I enjoy is ‘Atrum Inritus’ from Minneapolis, Minnesota USA.  They are one of the few bands that are serious about procreating Evil and should be known by all people into Satanism and Black Metal.  https://www.facebook.com/AtrumInritus

Summon: What is the band like when you play live?

Haborym Mastama: I have not played live.

Summon: What do you think of the US Black Metal/Death Metal scene?

Haborym Mastama: It is shit!  Filled with mediocrity, the worst part is people show up to shows just because a band is playing, not because it is good.  Fuck the “scene”!  Black Metal is not a music “style” it is a state of mind.  Too many people, because they are “angry” or “sad” want to play Black Metal because they want to be seen as “extreme,” when they are not extreme, they just read “Lords of Chaos” and said “I can do that”.  Those people need to be shot!  Black Metal has become a tool for people to gain acceptance or gain an identity, and it is fucking gross.  But outside of that in America?  It get’s even worse, if you can believe that!  We have now “Hipster black metal” which is basically post rock music with distortion and songs about saving the earth and shit like that.  Fucking hippies who have taken Black Metal, bastardized and distorted everything about it.  After that we have crust punk’s playing black metal, which is just as fucked up and terrible.  By this time you have completely lost the whole identity and sound of Black Metal and turned it into an abortion.  Crust punks, with left wing communist ideas, who are sheep dressed in the clothing of a wolf.  Black Metal used to be Hatred!  Black Metal used to be War!

Summon: What do you think of the Overseas scenes?

Haborym Mastama: I don’t know, from what I hear from people overseas is it is the same all over the world.  A world complacent with mediocrity and not serious attitudes.

Summon: What are some of new favorite black metal/death metal bands?

Haborym Mastama: Atrum Inritus.  https://www.facebook.com/AtrumInritus

Summon: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?

Haborym Mastama: I have three albums being released later this year, and am in the process of recording the 5th.

Summon: What does the future hold for the band??

Haborym Mastama: Music!
