Summon: How did the band get started?
Kris: In 2005 I was back from college and gather some friends to play some Swedish melodic death metal, like In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy etc. I already had some songs written and I started the band.
Summon: What kind of music do you play?
Kris: In the beginning we started to play Swedish melodic death but through the years and changing some new members we’re now into pure death black metal.
Summon: How has the fan response been?
Kris: We always have a solid fan base. You know, with every new album you get some new fans but loose some old fans too. But the response is always good.
Summon: Where did the band name come from?
Kris: Defiant means our fight through the life and our efforts to make something positive in this fucked up world… But It comes from Star Trek series too, Defiant was a star-ship, and we all love Star Trek 🙂
Summon: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.
Kova: Vocals
Kris: Guitars
Leo: Drums
Gojo: Bass
Summon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?
Kris: I write all music and Kova is the author of all lyrics.
Summon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
Kris: Ideas come from constant interesting and reading about time before the time, from history and legends about old Babylon, Muslim Religion and Mesopotamia…the age we live is very stupid, without any mystery so we decide to explore that whole thing and we’re satisfied with results and that’s the new lyrical way of Defiant…
Summon: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?
Kris: We are not a satanists or something like that…we don’t believe in one true god or something created by the hand of man.
Summon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?
Kris: 3 albums and 1 demo/promo:
The End of Beginning [Self- released 2006]
Without Religion There is No Fear [Promo, 2008]
Era of Substitution [Grom Records, 2012]
Morbid Spiritual Illness [Miner Recordings, 2015]
Summon: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?Â
Kris: New album Morbid Spiritual Illness is based  on Babylonian and Mesopotamian mythology, on era before the civilization we know and Muslim Religion. Some songs on album like Flesh is Nothing and Empty Chords is just our view of age we live…its about religion control and irrelevance of our life on earth.

Kris: Kova is vocalist/songwriter in Hereza it’s an old school death metal project, and Leo, the drummer have a couple of bands.
