Dark Armageddon-Desiderius

Summon: How did the band get started?
Desiderius: In 1994 the band was founded as “Perian” by Desiderius (guitar) and Paimoon (vocals). They were supplemented by Abyssos (Bass) and Morgana (Drums). The music was still very influenced by death metal. Over time, the music evolved more to Black Metal. In 1996 the band was eventually renamed in Dark Armageddon.

Summon: What kind of music do you play?
Desiderius: We play raw Black Metal. The melodies are very catchy and varied.

Summon: How has the band response been?
Desiderius: Lately we have received much positive feedback from the people. We are working steadily on our professional quality and our publicity. We are the longest serving Black Metal Band in Thuringia.

Summon: Where did the band name come from?
Desiderius: First we wanted to rename us in “Armageddon”. But there was already a band with that name. Then we have added the “Dark”. As the name implies, it is the apocalypse, the doomsday, end of the world. The complete destruction of Christianity and the dark forces of darkness, which unite.

Summon: Introduce the band members
Desiderius: The current line up consists of Desiderius (guitar) and Helvete (bass, vocals). The last few shows were played with guest musicians. But there will be again a full line-up. At the moment, a second guitarist will incorporated. A drummer is also in prospect.

Summon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?
Desiderius: All guitar parts are from Desiderius. Helvete is responsible for the lyrics.

Summon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
Desiderius: Our lyrics are about Satanism, Hell, Apocalypse and the War against Christianity, but also hatred and revenge. Texts were initially inspired by bands like Dark Funeral or Enthroned, but also their own fantasies and visions of demons and end time battles. Also articles and essays of the Apocalypse or demons have contributed as an inspiration for our texts.

Summon: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?
Desiderius: I am personally convinced that there is another side. The teachings of occultism will be made accessible in book form, where you can read it. Only those who are convinced can put it into practice.

Summon: How many albums/cd’s have you released?
Desiderius: 1997 the demo “Maiorum Obscuritas” was published. 1999 the first album “Unerreicht von Gottes Licht”. Then, 2001 the album “Siegel zum Seelentor”. 2006 a split CD “United by Hellfire” with Thy Majesty. 2010, the last release with “Saat des Bösen”.

Summon: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?
Desiderius: The last release was last year with “Saat des Bösen”. A single CD, which reflects the development of the band. There’s an old, newly recorded song (Saat des Bösen). The melodies have a bit of Dark Funeral’s “My Dark Desire”. There are two completely new songs. “Dance of the Demons” is a very varied song. Fast and slow parts alternate, which ends in a powerful part in the second half of song. “Voices for Satan” is once more a faster song. All these songs will also be found on the upcoming album.

Summon: Do you have any side projects?
Desiderius: At the moment I’m working on my side project Höllensturm. The idea I had a few years earlier, but I’ve only now found the right musicians for the project. In fall, the debut album will be released. Höllensturm is fast Black Metal like Dark Funeral or Setherial.

Summon: Who are some of your musical influences?
Desiderius: Through years of guitar work I’ve found my own style. I was inspired by various bands, but also incorporate my own ideas.

Summon: Which current bands?
Desiderius: Bands like Setherial, Dark Funeral, Marduk or Enthroned shape my musical ideas.

Summon: What is the band like when you play live?
Desiderius: The band will convey exactly what we stand for. The pure hatred and total war against Christianity.

Summon: Do you have any type of stage props or special clothing?
Desiderius: On stage, all the band members wear leather armor. They were designed by me. We set up upside down crosses, which I built myself. Besides, if it is possible impaled heads of sheep and goats.

Summon: What was the best band you played with?
Desiderius: That was in April 2003 with Bloodsrit from Sweden.

Summon: Have you guys ever played in another country?
Desiderius: Not so far, but the band is now in a booking agency. At the latest after the release of the new album shows will follow abroad.

Summon: How big of crowd shows up at shows usually?
Desiderius: Until now it was mostly still 150-300 people.

Summon: How is the crowd response when you play?
Desiderius: From the crowd, we’ll usually well received. Although there are always one or another who pillory what we do, but we do our own thing. By special stage props we want give the audience an independent view of the band.

Summon: What is your opinion on death metal bands and black metal band? What is your opinion on the conflict of Black Metal Vs Death Metal?
Desiderius: Death Metal are not really interested for us, except 2 or 3 bands. In Black Metal, there are some good bands that convey what they think. The conflict will always exist, but you should not confound too much with each other.

Summon: What do you think of the US Black Metal scene?
Desiderius: There are some interesting bands. We want to approach our contacts in the United States. We hope that once we get the chance to play in America.

Summon: What do you think of the Norwegian and Swedish scenes?
Desiderius: This is a scene that endures. There are the origin of the Black Metal scene. Back than, the founders would have never thought which enormous dimensions this take on for the world. Whether Sweden or Norway, there brought forward the best bands.

Summon: What are some of new favorite black metal bands?
Desiderius: Even the newer scene brings out some good new bands. But that is now developing. The growth of bands and fans has grown enormously in recent years, which is also here in Germany, especially seen in Thuringia.

Summon: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?
Desiderius: The new album is already in works, which is currently recorded in my studio. We have worked out a lot of material. For the subsequent album are some songs already written.

Summon: What does the future hold for the band??
Desiderius: In fall, we will publish the new Dark Armageddon album and the debut album from Höllensturm. I would push my two bands ahead to show more presence in public. Furthermore there will be a larger selection of merchandise items.
