Blackened Horde: How did the band get started?
Juan Gomez: The band was born in 2000 with me and Daniel Ledesma, but it was dissolved until 2015 when we came back together to record some songs, in this occasion Leonel Grismado was added to take care of the voices. We recorded a demo and after this Daniel left the band. Together with Leonel we decided to record the songs that we had ready between us two, all in a very homemade way, and that is how the EP “Macabra Coleccion” was born first and then our debut album “La Maldicion del Zombi Errante” that was released in digital format in November 2017. From that point on, we decided to put together a complete lineup to be able to present ourselves live. So we can say that we are a new band that is taking its first steps.
Blackened Horde: What kind of music do you play?
Juan: The style of the band is pure Old School Death Metal, the one we like the most. A style that today do not make too many bands, since there are other fashions, and I think that is one of the reasons why we had good response from the public.
Blackened Horde: How has the fan response been?
Juan: The truth that very good, surprised us while being sincere. We get very good comments on our social networks, and people from different parts, is very positive, especially for being an Argentine band, and that is expressed in Spanish.
Blackened Horde: Where did the band name come from?
Juan: The name of the band, Cadaver Putrefacto, was the idea of the first guitarist Daniel Ledesma when we just started the band in 2000. We were very fans of Cannibal Corpse, especially the album Butchered at Birth, and wanting to have a band that follows those steps decided to put a name accordingly, but in Spanish.
Blackened Horde: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.
Juan: The current lineup of the band is Leonel Grismado in the guttural voices, Juan Gomez on the bass, Pablo Giangreco on the drums, and Clovis Avile Torrilla on the guitar.
Blackened Horde: Who writes the music? Lyrics?
Leonel Grismado: Music is almost entirely in charge of Juan (bassist) and Leonel (singer) is in charge of the lyrics.
Juan: We managed for the composition of the songs on this occasion, Leonel and I, since we were only the two of us at the time of making the album, but the idea now that the band has a complete lineup is that the new music be created by all members.
Blackened Horde: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
Leonel: The inspiration of the lyrics comes from the perverse and dark side that all human beings possess. We all have it, only a few liberate it in a brutal way to inflict damage on their peers. Horror, blood and gore are the source of inspiration for our lyrics. Obviously written in a fantasy and grotesque way, which is consistent with the music. Also stories of fiction and dark literature and some other tribute to horror films to which we are very adept members of the band.
Blackened Horde: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?
Leonel: With regard to Satanism I think that whenever it is taken from the ideological point of view, it is something very positive since it is a very strong symbolism to manifest against the oppression that religions are (mainly Christianity) and would mean freedom to do what one pleases as long as it does not harm the neighbor without his consent. Likewise, although one can take the writings of Anton La Vey as a reference, I think that each head is a different world and can coincide with some things and not with others. Now the religious and ridiculous Satanism I do not think is anything positive since it is Christianity seen from another angle. In fact, all that type of Satanism is based on Christianity inventions, which is why it is ridiculous. And with regard to the occultism I think there are things that we do not understand and when we do not find an answer, sometimes we can attribute an answer to something that we do not understand at all (Ouija, necromancy, magic, etc.)
Blackened Horde: How many albums/CD’s have you released?
Juan: The first material released by the band was a Demo with three songs in 2016. Then in July of 2017 we released the EP “Macabra Coleccion” that was like a preview of the album, it includes two own songs and three covers. Our debut album “La Maldicion del Zombi Errante” was released digitally in November 2017 and now in April it will be edited by the label Brutal Records in physical format. Also in the month of April we will participate with two songs in a Split with three other bands and will be published by the label Fall of Eden of Scotland.
Blackened Horde: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?
Leonel: The songs that make up the CD although they are all framed within classic death metal, I can tell you that they differ from each other because they are varied within the same style. There are songs fast, others slow or part time, long, short, etc … and in the lyrical we deal with various obscure topics such as revenge for jealousy, sadism, misogyny, deviations, etc …
Blackened Horde: Do you have any side projects?
Leonel: Within the band several of us are involved in other projects: Clovis (guitar) has his project REVENTOR, Pablo (drummer) plays also in STILLZONE and DISLEPSIA and I Leonel (voices) played in RIGOR MORTIS, TROPA NOISE and DISLEPSIA.
Blackened Horde: Who are some of your musical influences?
Leonel: Although classical death metal is our main influence (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Six Feet Under, Autopsy, etc …) we receive influence from all metal styles since we are open within what is metal. Although predominantly death metal is what most influences and motivates us when composing.
Blackened Horde: Which current bands?
Leonel: Although we listen to current bands, we do not see any that surpasses the classics with which we grew up. Surely there will be underground bands that have innovative proposals but they are not massive enough to stand out from the rest. Today there are millions of proposals and it is very difficult to stand out from the rest.
Blackened Horde: What is the band like when you play live? Have you guys ever played in another country? How big of crowd shows up at shows usually? How is the crowd response when you play?
Juan: As I commented at the beginning of the note, the band is relatively new, when we recorded the album we just thought about doing some music, and seeing the good response we had just decided to put together a complete lineup and start playing live. We are in the process of rehearsing the songs with the new members of the band to bring our music as best as possible to a stage.
Blackened Horde: What do you think of the US Black Metal/Death Metal scene?
Leonel: The scene in the USA is for what we know very good and varied in proposals. Although much of black metal we do not know, if we can talk about death metal since we consider that in that country emerged the main death metal bands that influenced us: Malevolent Creation, Deicide, Suffocattion, Obituary, Death, Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy, Incubus, Mortician, Incantation, Six Feet Under, Immolation, etc. It is a scene to which we follow and respect a lot.
Blackened Horde: What are some of new favorite black metal/death metal bands?
Juan: The truth is we do not hear many new bands, the new guitarist Clovis yes does it, since he is a lot younger than the rest of us. Listen a lot of Technical Death Metal, Deathcore bands like Obscura, Suicide Silence, Rings of Saturn, Persephone, etc …
Blackened Horde: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?
Leonel: As soon as our first CD is broadcast and we have made the appropriate presentations, surely the band will start to compose material for the next CD, but without rushing as we prefer to go at slow and steady steps rather than fast and disorderly steps. For now in April we will participate with 2 unpublished songs in a split with 3 extreme bands that publishes a Scottish label.
Blackened Horde: What does the future hold for the band??
Leonel: The future for Cadaver Putrefacto we hope that it is optimal at the level of being able to continue playing, recording, composing, and editing material. All this always within the extreme and pure death metal that we practice. We prefer not to do fururology and see how things are happening despite the obstacles that life puts us on a daily basis. But always in death metal. Regards!
