Brzask

Blackened Horde: How did the band get started?

Andrzej: One, simple idea: To join two passions – mountain hiking and black metal. As we are from Szklarska Poręba we are surrounded by Sudeten mountains. The atmosphere here is very unique and perfectly matches with the black metal mood.

Blackened Horde: What kind of music do you play?
Andrzej: Black metal. Inspired by the classic 90’s second wave with melodic elements.

Blackened Horde: How has the fan response been?

Andrzej: Very good so far. It was much more positive than we could ever expect.

Blackened Horde: Where did the band name come from?

Andrzej: “Brzask” means “Dawn” in Polish. The inspiration came from viewing the dawn from the top of the mountain.

Blackened Horde: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.

Andrzej: Toer does the vocals, Dod is our main guitarist, Hoggorm plays on the second guitar, Darlig crushes on bass and Bolle is blasting on drums.

Blackened Horde: Who writes the music? Lyrics?

Andrzej: Toer writes the lyrics and the sketches of the songs, then the whole group works on the compositions. We do spend many hours in our rehearsal room creating and combining ideas.

Blackened Horde: And where do the lyric ideas come from?

Andrzej: From our home – Sudetes. There are many fantastic legends and tales that are happening here, our music is an attempt to regain these stories.

Blackened Horde: What is your view on Satanism and Occultism?

Andrzej: We have our own Satan – the mighty Rubezahl. We worship the nature and world around us.

Blackened Horde: How many albums/CD’s have you released?

Andrzej: Just one, our debut demo.

Blackened Horde: Tell me about some of the songs on the latest CD?

Andrzej: Our debut demo is made of three songs and one intro which is actually an element of the first song. What you can hear at the end is the sound of an avalanche, because “White Ravine” is our take on a real-life story that happened in Karkonosze in 1968. 19 people died in one of the biggest avalanches in the Polish mountains. The second track “Wind Incantation” is a tribute to the wind and its master Rubezahl. And the third one “Crimson dawn ritual” brings the story of an ancient ritual that happened on the top of Śnieżka mountain.

Blackened Horde: Do you have any side projects?

Andrzej: Our drummer is also drummer for the Polish punk band Leniwiec. The others – no.

Blackened Horde: Who are some of your musical influences?

Andrzej: Dissection! Also mighty Mayhem, some of us are really in love with Behemoth or more proggy stuff like Opeth.

Blackened Horde: Which current bands?

Andrzej: There are so many awesome bands around, that I am discovering new fantastic music every day. Currently, German Toadeater is playing…

Blackened Horde: What is the band like when you play live?

Andrzej: There is a plague upon us so… we can’t play live, therefore we can’t answer that.

Blackened Horde: Have you guys ever played in another country?

Andrzej: In the past bands we did, and we can’t wait to do so with Brzask. We want to set sails and play around Europe again.

Blackened Horde: How big of a crowd do you normally get?
Andrzej: None.

Blackened Horde: How is the crowd response when you play?
Andrzej: We can’t wait to find it out.

Blackened Horde: What do you think of the US Metal scene?

Andrzej: In the 90’s there where many great bands like Death or Morbid Angel. Nowadays there are some cool underground bands, but I keep collecting them on my Bandcamp.

Blackened Horde: What do you think of the Overseas scenes?

Andrzej: As I said above you can find awesome bands everywhere, anytime.

Blackened Horde: What are some of your new favorite black metal/death metal bands?

Andrzej: I lost my track around 2015. The last great album was Mgła’s “Exercises in Futility”.

Blackened Horde: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?

Andrzej: Working on it right now. Time will tell what shape it will take.

Blackened Horde: What does the future hold for the band??

Andrzej: No one knows. We will see. But I know that it will be a hell of a ride.
