Blackened Horde: How did the band get started? How did you meet and how long have you been together?
Evan: We met in High School and all wanted to start a band. AVULSION began in April 1994 as a four piece band consisting of Evan March (vocals), Ian McDonald (guitar), Andrei Radulescu (bass) and Blake Jones (drums).
Blackened Horde: How would you describe your music?
Evan: It’s best described as death metal with a slight doomy edge.
Blackened Horde: What are your biggest musical influences?
Evan: I wouldn’t really say we’re specifically influenced by any particular bands.
Blackened Horde: Who if, if any do you consider the bands idols?
Evan: We don’t really idolize any bands, because in this type of music no one is extremely famous.
Blackened Horde: What made you want to be in the band? And if you weren’t in the band what would you want to be doing now?
Evan: I always wanted to be in a band, but I cant play an instrument, so I practice my vocals until I was good enough and then the band was formed. I also have a zine, Compilation, distro service and record label. I guess if I didn’t have the band, I’d be doing this anyway.
Blackened Horde: What are some of your favorite bands that are really popular today?
Evan: None. Popular bands suck! I listen to Ceremonium, Novembers Doom, Immolation, Cianide, Decrepit, Witch-Hunt, Tortures Kyrpt, Necrophobic, Bethlehem, etc.
Blackened Horde: How many demos/albums do you have? Tell me about them.
Evan: To date we have release two demos. The first one, which was worse than horrible in entitled “Near Death” we recorded in in July 94′ in Ian’s basement and fortunately there were only 30 copies in existence! In November 94′ we recorded Inexorable Suffering” at an 8 track studio. Improvement. It’s available for $2.00. It has a circulation’s of 600 so far.
Blackened Horde: If you could play with any band who would it be and why?
Evan: I’d like to play with any band that I listen to.
Blackened Horde: Who writes the majority of the music?
Evan: We all take part in song writing.
Blackened Horde: Who has been the favorite band you’ve played with? Why?
Evan: Witch-Hunt, because they’re totally cool and we all get along well. Not to mention, they’re a great band. We have another show with them on January 13th in Atlanta.
Blackened Horde: Where did you get the band name from?
Evan: Me and Ian found a picture of an Avulsion in Health class in High School. It inspired us!
Blackened Horde: Describe what the band is like live?
Evan: We sound totally brutal live, much better than our recordings!
Blackened Horde: If you are gonna do any kind of video what would be in it?
Evan: That all depends! We already did a video, though it remains unreleased. It has a waterfall flowing upside down with extremely close footage, pictures of us in the woods at dusk and footage a rehearsal in my garage. Maybe we will release it eventually.
Blackened Horde: Are there any tour plans made, if so tell me about them?
Evan: I already mention this, but I’ll repeat myself. We will go up the east coast in July and play 10 to 15 shows.
Blackened Horde: Where do you think the band will be in 20 years from now?
Evan: Non-existent. I don’t think I’ll be singing when I’m 38!
