Summon: How did the band get started?
Iv Ancient: Well I started the band in 1998.
Summon: What kind of music do you play?
Iv Ancient: Yes I, do prefer to play extreme metal. In all the slopes. since an epic death metal to faster speed , technical. etc. Well all the possible mixtures without being bored.
Summon: How has the fan response been?
Iv Ancient: Well I think is pretty cool. The band has been listened for many important persons I would never have imagined and that is great for me.
Summon: Where did the band name come from?
Iv Ancient: Well is true the band name is very hard, because a lot of bands have the same names in other countries. For that reason I leave to have a band with a single name. I had to choose 2 words name, because all the the names almost been chosen on these times Google did not exists and I should read tons of metal catalogs before it was chosen. The one I had inspiration for documentaries from Discovery channel ,then I receive a lot of histories to my debut album and I disfigure it. Then I begun to work in the concept to the band.
Summon: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.
Iv Ancient: Well Ancient Necropsy is a true one man band , I play all the instruments in studio and videos. But in live I pay to session drummers to play with me, because the show is complete. The drum works most be show to the public too. When I play alone I lost the mid of the show, then I like to play with a session drummer. I have played with a lot of drummers, who are available for a tour.
Summon: Who writes the music? Lyrics?
Iv Ancient: I am the writer and music composer IV Ancient J.
Summon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
Iv Ancient: Well the lyrics concepts comes from I am thinking for. Is very hard because I like to do different concepts in each albums. I don’t like to talk the same and the same in the albums. I like to try to speak of different and interesting topics. I like to create histories to my band. Respecting the metal topics. And some of imagination and reality I like to investigate a lot before write something, to give a sensation the readers can imagine an history behind of.
Summon: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?
Iv Ancient: Well I respect it. I think is a nice way to give the power to the body, the point of view is to fuck with philosophy to the normal people. That is an spiritual way to unleash the power of the human, I don’t like rites, but I like the ideology.
Summon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?
Iv Ancient: Well I released a demo in 2001, 4 full lengths, and I am preparing my 5th album.
Summon: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?
Iv Ancient: The last album was named “Sanctuary Beyond the Infinite”, is a great album for me. I really took my time to work on it. I inverted like 5 years writing and fixing riffs. Unfortunately my record label force to me to record it very fast because we had to Finnish it in June 0f 2011. The mix-down was too fast, and I would like to work more in the sound edition. But in fact I like the sound. But I think it could be better, but I like a lot this album. Is very different I did before but still ultra brutal, is a philosophic album with a mixture of mysticism and sarcasm.
Summon: Do you have any side projects?
Iv Ancient: No. I only work in Ancient Necropsy, but I am producer too. I work for other metal bands from Colombia but in the creation of a band I like to play only in Ancient Necropsy. Because I have everything on it. I don’t need to search more in other sounds. I feel very comfortable here.
Summon: Who are some of your musical influences?
Iv Ancient: Well I receive a lot of influences from my 90’s heroes. I respect all the Tampa’s metal scene. Is very great. Yonkers and California metal bands are very cool too. From Europe I respect the Swedish bands, Germany and CZ bands too. Pure extreme metal, but well I recognize I have enough ideas to create my sound. And I am working to try to be original on it of course a lot of influences.
Summon: Which current bands?
Iv Ancient: Since Black Sabbath to I don’t know. A lot of well done extreme metal of the globe.
Summon: What is the band like when you play live?
Iv Ancient: Well I like to play with tons of bands. I would like to play in festivals where they go. I would like to go to a lot of festivals like Party San. Wacken, Mayhem in USA. Well you know all the most important metal fest in USA and Europe.
Summon: Have you guys ever played in another country?
Iv Anceint: Yes. I have played in South America several times .
Summon: How big of crowd shows up at shows usually?
Iv Ancient: Well the last shows was great. I played in various shows with 3 or 5 thousands of people.
Summon: How is the crowd response when you play?
Iv Ancient: A nice response of the public was great. Yes we are working to play better and bigger.
Summon: What do you think of the US Black Metal/Death Metal scene?
Iv Ancient: Well I don’t know much about us black metal. I like Absu. and may be I forgot. I know USA is most recognized in my country to play nice and rude death metal. I love the American brutal death metal is unique and powerful. And well my favorite legends like Death. Morbid Angel, Deicide and many more are great for me.
Summon: What do you think of the Overseas scenes?
Iv Ancient: Well. first of all. I like to respect all the people and their tastes, but that is the human behavior. Few people stay in the oldest ideas. I love that, I love people who still like the old projects. But I think that is personal if you are looking for a music, some people travel to metal. Like a little time then goes to other music. The problem is the people still not find to identify the music with their selves. But now is common a lot of people who loves a lot of music genders is like each ones receives the music. That is personal, is like religion. Do you know what do you want to think and believe?
Summon: What are some of new favorite black metal/death metal bands?
Iv Ancient: Well I have new bands for me (because few months I know about it) I like. Bands like, Horna, Omnihility, Decades of Dispair, Vesperian Sorrow, Shadowcraft, well some other I forgot but is cool newest stuff for my taste.
Summon: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?
Iv Ancient: Yes I am writing the new stuff will be named “Sepulchral Profanation” you can see more details in my official website.
Summon: What does the future hold for the band??
Iv Ancient: Well. I like to compose stuff. Create new merchandise items, the fans love them and I like to work for them. And well go where the promoters invite us. (With all the minimum guaranties of course). To work with me is very easy but I am not a dumb-ass in this work hehe. But of course love to work looking the perfection. I like to try that.
