Blackened Horde: How did the band get started?

0: Some years ago I started writing some songs for a band that I wanted to form. I searched a lot, but I did not find the right people to form a serious band. I ended up with the songs and without a good band, so I thought that I could create the final form of the songs with only my bass and my voice and that’s how 0 was created.

Blackened Horde: What kind of music do you play?

0: I am playing experimental black metal and the only instrument I use to create sound is a four string bass. There are also some other elements in the music, like doom, drone, down tempo.

Blackened Horde: How has the fan response been?

0: The response from the people that have get in touch with my music was pretty good. There are always people that do not like your music, but no one can be satisfied, especially from a pure experimental act. I think that only time will actually decide if the project is successful or not.

Blackened Horde: Where did the band name come from?

0: I wanted to find a name that can be both abstract and specific at the same time. A simple concept that is able to last through time and not fade within time. At the same time, 0 describes the nothingness, describes a blank page, a vortex which I am trying to explore, describe and make it sound.

Blackened Horde: Introduce the band members and what they do in the band.

0: 0 is a one man project. I am calling myself “0” too, in order to stick in the aim of the project, which is to explore new soundscapes and not diverge from it as someone who is a member of something bigger, a project, a band. In this situation the project and the “musician” is one existence and do not differ from each other. The project uses a bass and a throat to create music.

Blackened Horde: Who writes the music? Lyrics?

0: I am writing the music and the lyrics alone. In order to do it and feel satisfied with the result, I have to stand off other people, stay alone, absorb the feelings from life and make them sound. Sometimes it’s pretty hard for me to do so, but it’s a situation which I can not avoid, I have the need to give to the project and that’s when the project gives back to me.

Blackened Horde: And where do the lyric ideas come from?

0: The lyrics speak about creatures of the night who act in the darkness. They deal with hate, vengeance and death. The lyrics describe existences who bleed to survive, to explore and to destroy.

Blackened Horde: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism?

0: I think that my music, well at least that’s what I am trying to do, tends to touch the untouchable, describe the indescribable but this has nothing to do with Satanism or Occultism, it’s a pursuit of pure sound. If you are asking especially about me, there is really no need to focus on me. Attention must stay on the project.

Blackened Horde: How many albums/CD’s have you released?

0: I have released one album, it’s called “Simplifying a Demon”. The project is newly formed, but I am aiming to release more albums in the future.

Blackened Horde: Tell me about some the songs on the latest CD?

0: The latest CD has 7 songs. In order to create the sound I wanted I used many distortions and I also used some clean bass layers. In this work, I found it critical to use many distorted channels, some distorted vocals too, in order to create the dark atmosphere I wanted. Personally, I distinguish the song “I, the river”.

Blackened Horde: Do you have any side projects?

0: At the moment I have no side projects. I am thinking of creating one or two in the future but that’s something that may happen in the next 2, 3 or even 4 years from now.

Blackened Horde: Who are some of your musical influences? Which current bands?

0: I have come in touch with many musical genres in order to have a better perspective in musical creation. The big problem for me, was the lack of drums, so I searched for bands and acts that create dark atmosphere without drums. The most successful act on this task is “Haus Arafna”. I also listen a lot to black, drone and doom metal with my personal favorite “Burzum”.

Blackened Horde: What do you think of the US Black Metal/Death Metal scene?

0: I don’t listen a lot to Death metal so I can not express an opinion. As for the US black metal scene I listen to Wolves In The Throne Room and Xasthur.

Blackened Horde: What do you think of the Overseas scenes?

0: I prefer the European metal scene, especially bands from Norway, Greece and Germany. I like Secrets of the Moon, Anti, Dodheimsgard and Septicflesh.

Blackened Horde: What are some of new favorite black metal/death metal bands?

0: Lately I have discovered a US band called Mamaleek. They play experimental black and their music is terrific.

Blackened Horde: When do you guys plan on writing any new material?

0: I have nearly completed the second album of the project. I am going to record it in the next months.

Blackened Horde: What does the future hold for the band?

0: The band will stay a one man project and the music will be consisted by a bass. At the moment I am promoting the project the best way I can and I am going to record at least one or two more albums in the next few years.
